With the N Gauge Guild at Pistonring Club, Modderfontein - October 2008
Our first module was hastily wired up on site at the Piston Ring Club in Modderfontein near Edenvale on 18 October 2008. It had taken me 31 years to realize my dream… It just goes to show, don’t ever give up!
The first photo below, shows the module bolted in place and receiving its first coat of brown paint to make sure it matched the rest in the layout. In the next photo, you can see the first train running through the desert without a problem.
It was only fitting that my stepson’s train was the one to break the ice, we kept it in the family and set the the standard for all future “Crewbus” modules. Although it wasn’t a huge exhibition, i still went home tired and very happy that night!
Without realizing it then, we’d started on something seriously addictive.
The second module, a continuation of our desert but with a Petra theme, would put in its appearance at an exhibition at the Coca Cola Dome in March 2009 and for four whole days I’d be in 7th heaven.
Since then I’ve been at nearly every N Gauge Guild exhibition and the thrill of setting up and getting ready still hasn’t diminished. I’ll post some more photo’s of other exhibitions soon but in the interim, go and have a look at the N Gauge Guild website and you’ll see some of the places we regularly frequent.
